Historic Locations in Lenexa
Lenexa is full of historic locations. The two main sections of the city that house historically significant areas are Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park and Old Town Lenexa. Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park is home to the Legler Barn Museum & Depot. Old Town Lenexa is the site of the town’s original plat and showcases historic buildings, churches and homes dating back more than 150 years.
Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park
Lenexa has many historic locations, but you’ll want to start with Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park. This city park contains the Legler Barn Museum, Lenexa Train Depot Museum, Wiedenmann Strang Line Waiting Station and a retired caboose on partial train tracks.


Legler Barn
The Legler Barn, built by Swiss immigrant Adam Legler in 1864, was completely reconstructed in 1983 and now houses the Legler Barn Museum and Lenexa’s hisorical archives.

Lenexa Train Depot
Originally located near “Old Town” Lenexa at Pflumm Road and Santa Fe Trail Drive, this depot built in 1912, was moved in 1987 to its current location and is part of the Legler Barn Museum & Depot.

Strang Line Waiting Station
The small white building next to the green Northern Pacific Caboose is an original Strang Line Waiting Station. It was initially located on the John Wiedenmann farm, near 53rd and Lamar

Bandstand
Originally built in the early 1900s A replica of the Bandstand now resides by Rose Pond in Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park.
Old Town Lenexa
The original town site, or “Old Town,” is still a vital part of the community. The area boasts three large churches which have been witness to more than 100 years of Lenexa history. Many of the buildings on the main strip on what is now Santa Fe Trail Drive have been around for more than 100 years.

E.H. Haskin Home
The home for E.H. Haskin, a prominent Lenexan who co-founded the Farmers State Bank in 1904.
