If you are planning on attending the Spinach Festival (or Spin Fest, as I like to call it) tomorrow, Sept. 7, you may have several questions about how things will go that day. I’ll answer a few questions for you here.
First you need to know where the festival will take place! As always, the festival will be in Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park, but this year it will be on the east side of Rose Pond. You may be saying, “But, it was on that side last year too.” True. However, that was a last minute decision and was due to the weather last year. This year, the City of Lenexa decided early on that it was best kept on that side of the park – less of a mud pit if the weather worked against us again.
Okay, so you know where the festival will be, but what about getting there? I can’t order you an Uber, but I can tell you where you can park (or where your Uber driver can park). The City of Lenexa, who runs the festival every year, has given these instructions:
Parking at the event site is limited.
–Lenexa Public Safety Complex, 12500 W. 87th St. Pkwy.
Free satellite parking is available at:
–Business parking lot on the southeast corner of 95th Street and Lackman Road.
**Free shuttles run from these lots approximately every 10 minutes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.**
Before you head off to the festival, you need to know where to find our booth. Of course you’d come see us, right? Maybe a menu will help entice you. We will be serving up:
Menu
- Spinach Balls – $1 each
- Spinach Salad – $4
- Spinach Dip & Chips – $4
- Spinach Smoothie – $4
- Wimpy Burger – $4
- Water – $1
- Meal Deal (Wimpy Burger, Spinach Salad, Water) – $8
We will also be selling some of our merch – including our infamous Spinach Cookbooks ($10)! Cash or card payments accepted. Donations also appreciated! Thanks to our awesome sponsors and supporters this year, all proceeds go back to LHS! Your support means we can keep updating our museums and archives and add new education programs.
Finally, here is a map to get you to our booth:

Fun fact – LHS started this festival and the City took the reigns on it later on. You’re welcome.
